On Tuesday 23 June 2026, Anthropic launched Claude Tag: Claude as a full teammate in Slack channels. In Anthropic's own framing, "tagging @Claude" is "one of the main ways we get things done at Anthropic", according to the company's introduction page.
For Norwegian SMBs already on Slack, this is easy to adopt. It does not solve every other problem.
What is Claude Tag?
You type @Claude in a channel, describe the task, and Claude replies in the thread where everyone sees what it is doing. The model is Opus 4.8.
Four properties:
- Multiplayer. One Claude per channel, everyone sees what it does.
- Learns over time. Builds context from the channels it has access to. Does not report from private channels it has not been added to.
- Takes initiative. "Ambient" mode that follows up on unresolved threads.
- Asynchronous. Can schedule its own tasks over time.
Direct messages are also supported.
Anthropic states that "65% of our product team's code is created by our internal version of Claude Tag". That applies to their own engineering team, with full access and training.
What this means for Norwegian SMBs
Three things.
Onboarding without custom build. You tag a ready-made AI into the channel you already work in, so the SMB skips building a chatbot from scratch. For a 12-person accounting firm, the difference is between a six-month project and an afternoon.
Cost control. Per-channel and per-org token spend limits, combined with audit logs, give IT managers control. Cap spend per channel, see exactly what was used.
Data security and GDPR. Memory and data isolated per channel. A "sales-scoped Claude" does not share data with an "engineering-scoped Claude". Built in from day one.

Practical use cases
Accounting firm. In #support tag @Claude for standard client inquiries. In #accounting tag @Claude to extract numbers from invoices. Per-channel spend limits prevent overspend. Sales uses #sales without seeing #accounting data.
IT consultancy. One channel per project: #project-acme, #project-nordic. Claude follows each project and answers status questions.
Health clinic. #reception uses Claude for scheduling, while #doctor-1 and #doctor-2 stay private.

Limits and pitfalls
- Requires Slack. Microsoft Teams users must migrate first.
- Requires Claude Team or Enterprise. Not for individual users or Pro.
- Does not replace AI agents that run whole jobs. For that, see Autonomous AI Agents.
- Does not replace an AI audit. Know your data flows first: AI audit.
- It is a beta. Start in a low-risk internal channel.
What you should do now
1. Map your Slack usage. Channels and data flows.
2. Pick one pilot channel. Low-risk internal start. Evaluate two to four weeks.
3. Set spend limits and turn on audit logs. Per-channel and per-org caps. Read the log weekly the first month.
4. Train the team on @Claude. Use an AI Kickstart to structure it.
5. Decide whether you need more. If 70 percent is covered but you need autonomous agents for the rest, look at Autonomous AI Agents.
Frequently asked questions
What is Claude Tag?
Anthropic's new way to use Claude in Slack. You tag @Claude in a channel, and it replies, learns over time, and takes initiative in threads.
Can Norwegian SMBs use it?
Yes, with a Claude Team or Enterprise subscription and Slack already in place. Beta opens 23 June 2026, with a 30-day migration window.
What does it replace?
Claude Tag is an AI colleague in a channel you already work in. It does not replace an AI audit, strategic AI planning, or autonomous agents that run whole workflows.
How much does it cost?
Included in Claude Team and Enterprise subscriptions during the beta. Anthropic offers an introductory credit. Spend is controlled through per-channel and per-org limits.
In short
Claude Tag is the simplest way for a Norwegian SMB team to put an AI colleague into daily use, on Slack. Beta opens today for Team and Enterprise subscribers, replacing the existing Claude in Slack app over a 30-day window.
